So... y'know.. I thought it was gonna be a normal school day for me... normal classes (included THEORY... ugh) and acting class which i really kinda enjoy.. It was 8pm and Bud (my housemate) called me. She told me to meet her on the 2nd floor at Mannes. So when I went over, our guy friend (Boris) was there too and she told me that Mannes threw out the sofa and two matching chairs in the student lounge and she REALLY REALLY wanted it cuz it was free.
So she called the movers and they said it would be 150 bucks to move it and she thought that was crazy! Well yeah! so the next thing she thought of...(which OF COURSE wasn't as crazy as paying 150 bucks to move it...uhhuh) was to move the sofa all the way back to the apartment... IN THE SUBWAY(train). so that's what we did! Bud, Boris and I moved that thing back all the way! hahaha Boris was soo funny. He said he didn't wanna be seen by Mannes peeps moving that sofa cuz it's soo embarrassing so he told Bud that he will only move it at 10pm where almost everyone is outta school. So Bud and I were sitting outside Mannes on the sofa when it was about like prolly 5 degrees... chatting about her day... blablabla. and We decided to move it a little.. at least to the end of the street. When I lifted that sofa, I totally bet that I tore some part of my muscle somewhere cuz there was this sharp pain in my arm. argh.
Finally, Boris turned up and he tried to persuade us to leave the sofa. When he failed, he THEN proceeded to persuade us to at LEAST flag a large cab. We were persuaded after carrying it for less than a block but unfortunately, we couldn't persuade ANY of the taxi drivers to take us. They sped up after we pointed to the sofa. It was hilarious. We were laughing and laughing and pleading with them all the way! We even offered drivers with big vans to send us back with it and we'd pay them. Well.. no luck.
We got so many comments along the way. hahha some guy just walked passed and said, "Wow." pple stared from inside the restaurant. According to Boris one lady even dropped her jaw. so exaggerating. couples stopped to give us advice on how we should move it. We all replied with, "yeahh.. we've tried that... AND that AND THAT.. and it didn't work!" ahaha Bud was so desperate that she tried to flag a large truck... only to realise that it was a garbage truck. ahhaha! goodness! This kind man offered to help take it down the stairs to the subway station. we paid him 6 bucks. He kept trying to discourage us from bringing into the train. But who cares?! We brought it this far, we were gonna bring it allll the way! and so we did.
We went to the back of the train where there were few people. It was hilarious cuz we were sitting on the sofa in the subway. My gosh.. we have pictures of it in Boris's iphone. I hope he sends it soon. hahah
All in all, it wasn't too bad even though that sofa almost smashed Boris's head on the wall and almost broke my neck.
This REALLY kind black man in the neighbourhood actually helped us to carry the sofa from outside the subway station to UP to our apartment... FOR FREE. WOW. Amazing young man. Thank God for him.
So yup. It's in the apartment right now. This beautiful blue colored sofa.
This is NEW YORK. EVERYTHING HAPPENS IN NEW YORK!
